Prom dresses

As any teenager will tell you, prom is a very important part of a young girl’s life. One of the first opportunities they have to really dress up with their friends and go all out on their outfit, prom is a right of passage for teenagers across the UK.

With more and more schools and colleges organising end-of-year proms, the demand for unique, stylish and well-tailored dresses has never been higher. As a result, increasing numbers of teenagers are choosing beautifully crafted designer gowns instead of high street alternatives. As well as giving them a dress they can treasure for life, this also helps to ensure no one else will wear the same gown on the night.

Choosing the perfect prom dress

The majority of designer prom dresses available are evening-style gowns. This means they’re full length, elegant and very formal. Beyond that, prom dresses can vary dramatically. Available in a huge variety of colours and styles, there’s a dress out there to suit everyone.

When deciding which gown is right for you, it’s important to consider your body shape and your skin tone. These will affect the colour and the cut of the dress you choose – the two things that have the biggest impact on the look of your outfit.

Colour

As prom tends to be a romantic occasion, reds, pinks are purples are popular choices. Some prom gowns combine a few of these tones, helping you to create the perfect look for your night out. Navy blue and emerald green are also excellent choices for a prom dress and ‘nude’ tones are becoming increasingly popular.

If you’re unsure which colour to choose for your gown, hit the streets of London or Chester before the event and buy a few different coloured tops or dresses. Wear each one for a night out and take some photos in each outfit to see which colour most compliments your complexion.

Cut

Unless you have a signature cut you always opt for, this can be one of the most difficult parts of choosing a prom dress. Hourglass-style dresses suit a variety of body shapes and look especially good on girls with fuller figures. Off the shoulder and strapless dresses can also look fantastic on most people, while A-line cuts are another popular choice.
